Table Matters has been developing a network to build sustainable food systems and make healthy food accessible for everyone living on the North Shore since 2005. This network is building active relationships between local governments and community groups with interests in food security, urban agriculture, and local food systems.
Our activities involve promoting, educating, advocating, leading, incubating and partnering on projects on Vancouver’s North Shore. Food is shared around the “Table” during our annual celebrations where network members, including leaders from local municipalities, businesses, and the community, gather to discuss current food issues and future possibilities.
Table Matters has an Advisory who are the Networks’ decision makers. The Advisory has representatives from Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), the City of North Vancouver, the District of North Vancouver, the District of West Vancouver, and our host agency, North Shore Neighbourhood House. Additional Network members also participate on the Advisory on a project basis. The Advisory oversee projects that support the North Shore Community Food Charter.
Thanks to Community Food Action Initiative funding from Vancouver Coastal Health, the Network has a part-time Coordinator and is also able to support strategic projects through this funding and funding from North Shore municipalities and organizations like Innoweave.
