Advancing Municipal Food Policy Project

Many communities within Metro Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast have active grass roots food systems projects in the works. Some have collaborated with their municipal governments to have a Food Charter endorsed and some Official Community Plans even mention local food systems. However, a gap still remains when municipalities are presented with these issues and a clear food lens is not included in the process.  Building on our first meeting in May 2015, Let’s Talk Food Policy – Regional Gathering , this year-long project aims to coordinate food policy bridges to meet current needs in communities across the region.
A follow up event is planned for January 2016 which will be an opportunity to provide feedback on MetroVancouver’s Draft Regional Food System Action Plan. Funding from Vancouver Coastal Health SMART Fund is gratefully acknowledged. Project Coordinator: Brent Mansfield, [email protected]
